“I want to show the essence of the man, but not figuratively. My intention is to represent the inner self, anxieties, feelings. Presented with color and forms through the unlimited speech of abstraction, with illusions of the real world. Another theme is the perception of humanity before life, the reflection and the recognition of its own experiences.”
Pepe has been a painter since childhood, growing up in a family of artists. A major influence, his mother is the director of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cuba. His painting has branched out to a distinctively unique and well developed style of contemporary abstract with bold colors with a added glimpse of almost surreal scenes.
Although being a young artist, he is actively involved in many community art projects and has been appointed as the Vice President of an art gallery in his home town. He participates on the jury of many art contests and contributes to several cultural and community functions. At the age of 29, he's attended and graduated from 4 different schools, the last one being the Academy of Fine Arts, Benny More.
He has presented his work in more than 15 personal exhibitions in Cuba and has been exhibiting in collective exhibitions since the age of 10 years.

Interview with Pepe
The metamorphosis of man and nature, as a product of artistic creation, is expressed in my painting, attempting to capture the elusiveness of life in a peculiar way. The abstract work does not cut its ties with objective reality; yet, it incorporates multiple planes, lines, colors and textures which converge onto a world very different from the one in which we live.
I propose an analysis in which the viewers can relate on the basis of their own lifestyle, finding their unique world in art.
I am an artist associated with abstract art; drawing inspiration from the great classics of this style, yet take on and discard standards from it at will. I search with my own light until I finds my own path; only then begin a journey, inspired by the richness of the scene, architecture or persons and they all become indissolubly linked in my painting.
